ATOL & TOPP PROTECTION
We are both ATOL and TOPP protected. This means that if you have booked a ‘package’* through us then your holiday is covered by our ATOL protection. (View Details of our ATOL).
ATOL is a protection scheme for flights and air holidays, managed by the Civil Aviation Authority (“CAA”). Most companies who sell air travel in the UK are required by law to hold a licence called an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (“ATOL ”). The Globe Travel Centre, trading name Kerala Travel Centre holds such a licence no. 9474.
When you book a complete air holiday package or just a flight, ATOL protects you from losing money or being stranded abroad if the tour operator goes out of business. All licensed firms, as with ourselves have to lodge bonds with the CAA so that if we were to go out of business, the CAA can give refunds to people who cannot travel and arrange for people abroad to finish their holidays and fly home. There is also a Government-backed fund called the Air Travel Trust that steps in if any ATOL bond is not enough to look after everyone affected by the failure. An ATOL offers protection to those people who book a holiday which includes air travel and accommodation.
For accommodation only holidays the Kerala Travel Centre operates a TOPP scheme TOPP (Total Payment Protection) In compliance with the UK Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992, an insurance policy has been arranged with Travel & General Insurance Company plc to protect customers’ prepayments paid in respect of the ground handling aspects of packages where the customer is responsible for arranging travel to the destination offered in this brochure/literature/document/ website (subject to the terms of the insurance policy), for a) a refund of such prepayments if customers have not yet travelled, or b) making arrangements to enable the holiday to continue if customers have already traveled, in the unlikely event of our financial failure.
USE OF SCHEDULED AIRLINE CARRIERS INSTEAD OF CHARTERS
You will find that the more recent closure of XL holidays and other travel companies have been majorly due to two factors; 1.The economic meltdown owing to which lesser people chose to travel 2. Rise in fuel prices. With fuel prices skyrocketing and lesser number of people travelling, even XL who was the UK’s third largest tour operator could not sustain the financial pressure, since they operate their own charter aircrafts. Similarly First Choice cancelled all its holidays to Kerala for the coming year for exactly the same reason as above (despite the ever growing popularity of Kerala).
At the Kerala Travel Centre, we only use scheduled airline carriers for your holiday and do not rely on our own or other charter aircraft carriers. This means that we are under no financial pressure as far as your flights are concerned. The airlines we use include major carriers such as Emirates, Qatar and Jet airways who are financially sound companies and who apart from being financially sound do not have to rely on holiday makers to fill seats.
